Our Motto
Cultivating a shared agency for sustainable changes in healthcare delivery.
Our mission
Our mission is to inspire health equity-mindedness, which is the social responsibility of healthcare providers and consumers to develop and implement culturally relevant and evidenced-based solutions to health inequities in Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.
our Values
Cultured Remedy seeks to foster an environment of inclusion and belonging, cultural responsiveness, and lifelong intercultural development. Our values derive from the fundamental principle that every life matters and that our communication and actions represent the highest standards of integrity, compassion, and authenticity. The work that we do always centers on ensuring we meet these six values:
- Equity
- Social Responsibility
- Innovation
- Authenticity
- Evidence-Based
- Results-Oriented.
Our Vision
Cultured Remedy is a clearinghouse for innovative technologies and strategies designed to engage healthcare providers and consumers in health equity-minded competencies, knowledge-building, and praxis to reduce cultural-based disparities in health. Our vision has five areas of focus:
Focus #1 – Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Programs
Rationale: We intend to decrease health disparities by encouraging healthy behaviors and giving people the means to prevent and reduce chronic illnesses. One measure of success is providing promotion and prevention strategies to communities fitting their unique cultural needs.
Focus #2 – Health Education & Literacy Programs
Rationale: Health education is crucial to patients’ understanding of their health risk factors, treatment options, and diagnoses. Through community engagement, we hope to broaden health literacy, giving patients greater control over decision-making and improving power imbalances in the patient-provider relationship.
Focus #3 – Community-Based Research Initiatives
Rationale: Community-based participatory research (CBR) is necessary to identify opportunities and threats to a population’s well-being. CBR allows cross-sector collaboration and community partnerships, which empowers public health efforts in a way research findings enhance community health.
Focus #4 – Intercultural Development of Health Providers
Rationale: There is a direct link between the intercultural development of healthcare providers and improved patient health outcomes. Shared decision-making and community participation also increase when healthcare systems and providers are interculturally developed and express cultural humility in clinical encounters. We want to ensure providers and systems have the skills and tools for culturally based health care.
Focus #5 – Health Policy & Advocacy
Rationale: A crucial component to ensuring equitable healthcare for diverse populations is ensuring health policies are designed with provisions to protect, furnish access and utilization, and monitor health. As advocates, we strive to influence state and local policy for our communities.
